Trying to pick my 50 favorite movies in honor of turning 50 in a couple months. Turned out too hard to do so I decided to go year by year for every year of my life and pick 1 for each year with a few honorable mentions for each year as well. Unless stated otherwise,each "favorite" will be in my collection. Honorable mentions will be in yellow if I have them in my collection.There will,of course,be movies not listed that you think should be here.
If a movie isn't listed then it's likely for 1 of 3 reasons...1) I just
haven't seen it 2) I've seen it and didn't care for it,had no
attachment to it 3) I missed it on the list of movies and forgot about
it lol (hey,i'm reading the name of every movie released over a 50 year
period.I may just miss a few)
1970 - Beneath the Planet of the Apes It's an Ape movie. 1 or 2 might not make fave pic but they are all in consideration for their years! This is the 2nd of the Apes movies. Talking monkeys,scarred mutants,atomic bombs. Everything you need!
Honorable mentions to Airport,Collosus : The Forbin Project,Dracula vs Frankenstein,Out Of Towners.
1971 - Escape From The Planet Of The Apes. It's an Ape movie,giving it an edge lol. Although it was almost Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. That movie probably baby sat more people at the Stardust Theater in Maple Ridge on weekend than anything or anyone lol. I swear it was the matinee for a year haha. Honorable mentions also go to Dr. Phibes,Andromeda Strain,Dirty Harry,Omega Man,Big Jake, and The French Connection.
1972 - Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes. Apes win pretty much every time! Honorable menntions to Blacula,The Cowboys,Deliverance,Dr. Phibes Rises Again,Judge Roy Bean,Silent Running,Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid,The Godfather,ThePoseidon Adventure.
1973 - (by the way.. a great year for movies...so good,an Ape movie is honorable mention lol) - The Sting. I consider this to be a perfect movie. Never get tired of the ending,awesome. Music is fantastic. Honorables go to Paper Moon. Fantastic movie,great performance by Tatum O'Neal. Honorable mentions to American Graffiti,Battle For The Planet Of The Apes, Jesus Christ - Superstar, Papillon,Soylent Green.
1974 - Young Frankenstein - Mel Brooks at his finest. Watched it recently,still just as funny. Honorable mentions to Blazing Saddles, Earthquake, Crazy Joe, Godfather II, Longest Yard,The Parallax View,Towering Inferno.
1975 - Monty Python & The Holy Grail. 'Tis but a scratch! Many great lines came out of this movie. Honorable mentions to Apple Dumpling Gang,Death Race 2000, Dog Day Afternoon, French Connection II, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
1976 - Rocky. Love the character,love the movies (most of them). Honorable mentions go to All The President's Men,The Outlaw Josey Wales, Mother,Jugs,and Speed. (because I could lol)
1977 - Star Wars This movie is the only possible choice for this year. Honorable mentions to Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, and Slapshot. 1977 was not a very good year for quality movies.
1978 - Superman This is such a fun movie,a shame the rest of them more or less sucked. Honorable mentions (in yet another relatively poor crop of movies) to Halloween, Deer Hunter,The Medusa Touch.
1979 - Rocky II As stated previously, I love the character and some of the movies. II might make the list but IV & V definitely wont lol. Honorable mentions (in a much stronger year) And Justice For All, Apocalypse Now, The Warriors, Up In Smoke, Dawn Of The Dead, Meatballs.Alien.
Thats it for the 70's. The 80's will be up soon.
