ok, watched a couple movies this past week. Poseidon (w/kurt russell) - it was pretty good. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I am a huge fan of the original but this one can stand on it's own. Is it epic stuff? No, but it's still an enjoyable movie.
Another movie I saw was "Elvis has left the building" - It's about a lady whokeeps causing elvis impersonators to come to an untimely end. Accidentally. She doesn't kill them but she does seem to bring them extraordinarily bad luck.
This week's 24 episode wasn't too bad. But like a friend and I wee discussing - they need to change things up a bit. Take the action out of ctu-terrorists area and have a season where it's all Jack. My friend suggested that a season with Jack stuck in that Chinese prison would have been good. A storyline that's morepersonal-crisis for Jack oriented would be a good switch.
Just saw a trailer for Spider-man 3. AWESOME! CAN'T WAIT. Looks like Venom and The Sandman are the villains this time around. The previews look GREAT. Spidey's my favorite superhero (next to pie-man, of course!)
The NHL playoffs are just around the corner. Hopefully my beloved Canucks can keep up their stellar play that theyve been putting on since about christmas and go on a huge roll. If they do keep up the great play, and the goalie stays healthy, they have a decent shot at The Stanley Cup.
Oh -I'm thisclose to going over the 180 lbs mark! whoulda thunk THAT would ever happen?
ok, I'm out of here.
Take care. Sleep tight. Don't let the bed-bugs bite. (unless you're into that sort of thing!)

tv & other stuff
24 was pretty good (2 hours of 24 is never a bad thing!) How can a show get better every year.
Simpson's : This past week's episode was, and iit hurts to say this. Very very blah. A lot of my friends have been saying for some time that Homer & co. have lost their edge. Based on this episode, I would have to agree.
CSI : This season of CSI started off rather poorly. ( A 2 part epsisode to star the year? After waiting all summer for new shows we get THAT? A lame episode that ends wit "to be continued"?) But,since then, it has been steadily uphill all season long. The "Miniature Killer" will likely make one or 2 more appearances before being the vehicle for the season finale. The Roger Daltrey episdoe remains my fave so far this year but the "MK" story arc is great.
Survivor : Some interesting people, a decent twist with the Immunity Idol. So far,so good. We'll see.
(oh, they should make them sing for immunity - they could call it "American Immunity Idol"!)
all together now...boooooooooooooooo!
Watched Superman Returns the other day. Bah. I was under the impression that it is supposed to take place after the events in Superman II. No. I would have to say it's a cleverly disguised remake of the original Superman with Christopher Reeves. There are plot points taken DIRECTLY from the original. Not impressed. It isn't Fantastic Four bad (what COULD be? - well, except for possibly FF2). The effects and acting are decent but I felt like I had seen the movie already
A movie I did watch that was pretty good was "Nanny McPhee" . A charming little story in the mold of Mary Poppins.
Also saw Kill Bill Vol 1 the other day and am going to watch Vol 2 tomorrow. It was good, I enjoyed it. Any excuse to look at Uma for 90 minutes is fine by me! Violence, gore, humor, good fight scenes, etc. Worth watchingI'd say.

Interesting bits of trivia
on "24"- the guy who played George Mason (Xander Berkely) is married to the lady who played Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke).
Studies have shown that sixty percent of the couples that appeared on "The Newlywed Game" were later divorced.

Survivor - Week 1
Well, if you're gonna be wrong, be REALLLLY wrong! So much for my prediciton that Jessica would be one of the last 2 left! LOL! (now you know why I don't place money on these things!
I kinda like Rocky but he's got to not let people like "Dreamz" goad him into arguments. He should have ley Dreamz dig himself a bigger hole (what was that guy thinking - yapping it up while people are trying to get to sleep?) Now people aren't going to remember it as "that guy that wouldn't shut up" but, rather, "those TWO guys who kept arguing" when it comes time to decide who to vote out.
It also looks like the hidden immunity idols are at the camps! That could be interesting, someone could find it without having to go to exile island! And if they find it, will they even know what it is? I can just see it now "hey everybody, I found some kinda ancient thingy, wonder how long it's been here?" It may seem unfair that people who don't go to exile island could find themselves in possession of the idol but unless you go to exile island, you won't even know to look for itin your own camp. This is a pretty decent twist for a show that's running out of them.
Oh, and I knew that the "one tribe" angle wouldn't last long. I stillthink they should do it for an entire season. Or even better : 2 tribes, one beach.

Survivor Fiji preview
As promised, here is the Survivor Fiji
Here's what's new this time around
2 idols
19 contestants
1 tribe (to start - I predict this lasts maybe 2 weeks)
"The winning tribe lives in luxury, the losers in slum-like conditions" (further leading me to believe that this "1 tribe" hook won't last long)
Contestant break down :
10 Males
9 Females
9 from California (5 male/4 female)
10 from other parts of U.S. (5 male/5 female)
Californians - 5 from Los Angeles (2 m 3 f), 4 from other parts of Califonia
I almost thing they will split them into California vs the rest of the U.S. when the split them into tribes. They've done male vs female, old vs young, and separated them by race, geographically is about the only demographic they haven't used yet.
Ages :
23-30 : 10 (5 m / 5 f)
30-40 : 5 (3 m / 2 f)
40 + : 4 (2m / 2f)
The edge deginitely goes to the younger crowd here with just over half being between 23-30 years old. It depends on how they split the tribes.
I had a much further in depth analysis planned but didn't get started on it soon enough. Even still here we go: I will be cheering for Alex for now but I don't really see him lasting all the way because he is a lawyer and people have a general dislike/distrust of lawyers these days. There is another person who works within the legal system (Anthony) so I'm going to say he gets ousted sooner rather than later as well. Also getting an early boot will be the two loan officers (Mookie & Iliana). Bankers being almost as unpopular as lawyers! And because the winner has seldom been one of the older contestants, I am also going to say the ones over 50 won't get the $$$ either. There goes another 3 players (Gary,Sylvia,& Yau-Man). I also think Lisette (Lisi) will go early. She works as a Customer Service Rep for a psychic service company and has worked as a paralegal as well. People's disbelief of psychic services may get her ridiculed and talked about behind her back. (I'm saying she goes first). Also not going far will be Boo (PARDON?) - He considers himself a cerebral athlete and I think he may outsmart himself with arrogance. Also falling victim to his own arrogance will be James - he considers himself to be a "man's man" - (whatever that means).
This leaves 9 people. 6 women, 3 men. I will say that the 3 men go before the 6 women do (not neccessarily all in a row, but eventually). That takes out Earl,Dre,& Edgardo. Next to go would be the ones that people on the jury would likely vote for to get the $$$ due to being nice or having the sympathy vote : Cassandra (seems likeable), Erica (from Louisiana : sympathy vote, Rita (single mom, might need the money = sympathy vote), Michelle (student = needs money = gets sympathy).
I think the final 2 will be Jessica & Stacy, with Stacy winning final immunity and taking Jessica to the final with her because Jessica is a church goer and willbe preaching the gospel and people don't like that ("ohmy god, she's a bible thumper" syndrome) and will have annotyed the jury to the point that they award Stacy the million dollars.
I will likely end up being wrong on a lot of my points but my analysis was done very quickly. We'll see
Either way : Enjoy! Survivor is back!

Survivor Fiji
Survivor Fiji starts tomorrow. 19 people this time around and they are starting with one tribe. Something I thought of about 3 survivors ago. I expect my royalty check soon, thank you!
For now I will state that I am going to cheer for Alex (of course) but before tomorrow's show I will run down all the contestants and give my predictions and such.
For now I will say that for as long as the one tribe format lasts,(and who knows how long that is? maybe 2 weeks at best? that's one thing about survivor thats always annoyed me - "this years twist" which ends up lasting a week or 2 at most) the two guys I would normally pick to go first may last a bit longer as they (seemingly) would be easier to beat in challenges. (Gary and Yau-man). They are 2 slightly older guys and they usually dont last long. Usually.
I'll predict that Lisette (Lisi) goes first.

24 Feb 5th episode...SPOILER ALERT!
12:11:14 - End first segment
Jack and his dad escape the clutches of the henchmen hired by Jack's brother, Graham, to kill them (or were they really going to kill the dad too? we won't know for sure for awhile yet - the ONLY person I trust on this show is Jack Bauer). Cut to McCarthy and his wife discussing something. Apparently the casting director has something for a certain type of blonde because this one looks quite a bit like previous blondes (including Kim, to a degree).
12:23:30 - End second segment
Jack & co. burst into his brother's house and take him prisoner, readying him for interrogation. Graham's wife and son are taken to CTU as a precaution. Initial questions indicate that Jack's brother is being deceptive (BIG surprise!). Jack tells the agent to get something out of the van (didn't hear what - I assume some kind of torture type device to make interrogation go quicker) as the agent is heading back in, Jack's dad (James Cromwell of "Babe - The Pig fame"- good addition, I like that guy) gives the agent an odd look. Eill Jack torture his own brother? Can Jack's dad be trusted?
12:36:07 - End third segment
Awesome segment! during interrogation Graham reveals some nasty details (re: last season) and says a few things that send Jack off the deep end and Jack comes thisclose to killing his brother. (and possibly shooting a CTU agent as well). Only (it seemed) the appearance of Jack and Graham's dad brought Jack back to sanity. Like I said : Awesome Segment!
12:46:00 End fourth segment
President Palmer and his sister have a heat to heart talk regarding the terrorist-suspect detainee's and the unfair treatment they are receiving. Jack and his dad share a somewhat tender moment interupted by an agent letting Jack know that his brother has been stabilized and will be ready to go soon. Jack tells his dad that they have to go back to CTU, Jack's dad nods in understanding but says he needs a few moments. hmmmmmmm, what's up with that? I'm telling ya : I don't trust this guy.
12:59:59 End fifth segment
President Palmer shows some balls and brains and doesn't allow himself to be tricked/co-erced into drastic action. Chloe (mmm Chloe...mmm) & Milo discover that Morris has been duped into leaving CTU to go vist his brother. En routeMorris is kidnapped by McCarthy. Jack's dad goes to see Grahamwho is still tied up in the interrogation room (no guards?). It is revealed that Jack's dad IS in on it! I knew it! Jack's dad questions whther or not Graham can withstand more torture at CTU headquarters. Jack's dad utilizes the torture device, killing Graham and then starts screaming like Graham has had a seizure as a result of the interrogation. End episode
All in all, a pretty good episode. Much better than last week's. Last week wasn't bad , there just wasn't a lot of "24" style excitement. This week was different. This show gets better every year. Not many shows can say that.

Speaking of 24
There is a big screen version in the works. Assuming it's the standard length for mvies (2 hours) will they call it 2?
And if they do and it's a hit. will they call the sequel 2 2?
And if they do and it's a hit. will they call the sequel 2 2?
24 Day 6, hours 3-4 (spoiler alert for those who have yet to watch it)
Two word review : Holy Fuck!
well, okay, it's gonna be more than 2 words but I had to get that out of the way. This could end up being the best season yet. Jack unsure of himself, the bomb going off, Curtis having to be shot, Shaun Majumder as a terrorist, the doctor from Deep Space Nine (took me awhile to relaize who it was). I'm hooked like never before. This is awesome so far. I've come to expect that level of entertainment from this show but that are blowing me away already.
Interesting note : when I realized that it was Dr. Bashir from DS9 I looked him up on the internet and found out a couple of cool things. He married Kira from DS9 AND he's the nephew of Malcom McDowell.
Funny bit about 24. I once got into a discussion about the show at a forum I visit. The guy was putting the show down as being the same thing every year. "All they ever do is fight terrorists" Umm, yeah. They work for CTU. That would be the Counter Terrorism Unit . What do you expect them to do? I have very minor beefs with the show but they are , like I said, very minor and the flaws seems to get ironed out every year. This guy just refused to accept the fact that it only makes sense for it to be terrorists every season. That's like hating on a cop show becasue all they ever do is fight criminals, a cooking show becasue all they do is cook food, ESPN becasue all they do is show sports related shows.

24 : what was SUPPOSED to be a review
Well, I tuned into Global tv for the 2 hour premiere of 24 : Day 6. Except I tuned into the Alberta broadcast which meant it was an hour into the show. I didnt realize it because I tuned in about 5 minutes late because I was busy finishing the supper dishes. I was wondering how Jack managed to get released by the Chinese, shaved, cleaned up & put on the job so quickly but I just chalked it up to the usual fast pace of the show. What I saw was good though, Jack seems to be a bit changed, gun-shy even. I was quite shocked when he walked away from the guy he was interrogating saying "I can see it in his eyes, he's not going to tell us anything" The old Jack Bauer would have shot the guy in the kneecap or something like that to get the info. He walks away and then says "I don't know how to do this anymore" Good stuff, should be a good season. If I can remember to tune into the right station that is! (For the record : I missed last year's finale for some reason (can't remember why) a
nd now I missed the first hour of this year's season - I'm gonna start calling it 22 !)

is it just me?
Is it just me or does this whole Trump vs Rosie think reek of publicity stunt on someone's part? I'm not buying it for a second. It is odd how this all started right before a new season of The Apprentice was about to start and they needed to do something to get back the viewers they lost last time around.
