NFL picks

ok, my picks for yesterday's games were

Saints vs Bears - I'll go with Saints by 7
Patriots vs Colts - I'll pick the Colts by 6

The results were :
Bears by 25
Colts by 4

So I went 1 for2 bringing me to 4 for 10 - not that good. (which is what I predicted at the start of all this)

The Superbowl on feb 4th will see Da Bears vs The Colts. I will pick the Colts to win. I'm basing this on the fact they had a tougher road to get there and will be hungrier. The Bears have had it easier and may get lazy thinking they have it sealed up.

NFL Week 2....not so good this time around

Okay, prior to this weeks games I was 3 for 4 by correctly picking Philadelphia, Seattle, and Indianapolis to win their games.

My picks this week were :
Colts vs Ravens - Ravens by 17
Eagles vs Saints - Eagles by 6
Seahawks vs Bears - Seahawks by 3
Patriots vs Chargers - Chargers by 7

Here's how the games actually went down :
Colts vs Ravens - Colts won by 9
Eagles vs Saints - Saints won by 3
Seahawks vs Bears - Bears won by 3
Patriots vs Chargers - Patriots won by 3

You'll notice I went 0 for 4 this week, which brings my total to 3 for 8. Not good!

Next week's matchups go like this :
Saints vs Bears - I'll go with Saints by 7
Patriots vs Colts - I'll pick the Colts by 6

Tune in next week to see how I did. Probably not much better than I did this week. I'm better at picking CFL winners than I am NFL games.

All in all I had a fantastic day although all I did was walk around for one hour then stand in a line up for 3 more.

The first picture is of Ron Maclean & Don Cherry doing their pre-game show on the ice at the Nelson arena.

Forthose of you unfamiliar with them, they host a segment on Hockey Night in Canada on the CBC called Coach's Corner. They are icons of a sort in this country. I didn't get to meet Don Cherry but I did get to meet (and get the autograph of) Ron Maclean. (he's the one without the goatee). He is a super nice guy who took time to chat with a lot of the younger kids and signed every autograph request made of him.

The second picture is a couple of cardboard cut-outs they had next to the Stanley Cup photo area.

Signs for HOW MUCH? To do WHAT?
250 Million over 5 years? I would ask "How's he gonna feed the wife?" but apparently she doesn't est much anyhow.
Funny how these people sign for "X" amount of dollars and then they all claim " but it's not about the money"
I know, the sponsors & team owners threw the money at him so more power to him. But JUST ONCE I'd like to hear a story where one of them says "yeah sure, I'll sign, but that's a ridiculous amount, why not make it this much?"

This saturday

I will be going to Nelson (about 30-45 minutes away) to take part in some of the hockey day in canada festivities. It is a CBC deal where every year they pick a town to broadcast from between games. (It is a triple header day - all 3 games are Canadian teams versus Canadian teams) There will be some puck-shooting accuracy contests, a peewee junior game, a major junior game between the Nelson Leafs and the Sicamouse team (can't remember their name) , and the part I am most excited about : you get to take your picture with The Stanley Cup! whoo & hoo! All festivities are free as well! Ron Maclean & Don Cherry will be there so I will likely see them somewhere along the way too! I am soooo excited about this. I will definitely be posting pictures of the day at some point sunday morning. This is gonna be sooo cool.

NFL Results

ok, first weekend of NFL Playoffs is done, lets see how I did

Jets vs Patriots : I picked Seattle by 3. Las Vegas picked the Pats by 8. Patriots won by 21.
Giants vs Eagles : I picked the Eagles by 14. Vegas had the Eagles as 7 point favorites. Eagles won by 3.
Chiefs vs Colts : I picked Colts by 10. Vegas said Colts by 7. The Colts won by a 15 point margin.
Cowboys vs Seahawks : I picked Seahawks by 6. Las Vegas had Seahawks by 3. Seahawks won by 1 point.

The Tally : I got 3 out of 4 right. Not too bad but they were fairly easy picks this weekend.

New England Patriots vs SanDiego Chargers - I say Chargers by 7
Indianapolis Colts vs Baltimore Ravens - Ravens by 17

Team Canada & other hockey bits

I forgot to post a big congrats to Canada's World Junior hockey team. They won the gold in this year's tournament. (This tournament produces some of the best hockey you're ever going to see -it's always extremely entertaining).
This is the 3rd year in a row that they hove won it and the 13th overall (tops of all the countries that have ever participated in it - Russia is next with 12) Way to go Canada, a well earned victory over the russian squad. I believe that's 6 times in the last 7 years those two have faced each other in the gold medal game, each with 3 victories.

Oh, and my beloved Vancouver Canucks have won 6 games in a row now. They look to have turned it around finally.

ok, I'm not a huge NFL fan but since I will likely be forced to sit through all of the playoff games this year I figured I may as well make some picks so that all of you who are NFL fans can laugh at my lack of knowledge.
